Summary of My Qualifications and Background

Since I can't know exactly what information you may find important in order to decide if I'm the right Atlanta counselor or psychotherapist for you, here's a little general background about me.

After almost 30 years in private practice I've developed extensive experience helping people resolve a wide range of difficult life problems. I bring an active and engaging presence to offer guidance, insight, exploration, support and feedback to help bring you to your goals.  Of course, every therapist promises some version of the same words.

In my general adult Atlanta psychotherapy pratice individuals come to me for help for anxiety, depression, addictions, relationship problems and many other life challenges.  Couples come to me to deepen their affection, improve their communication, rebuild damaged trust and achieve other goals related to a satisfying relationship.

An Atlanta Expert On Chronic Infidelity, Pornography Problems, Complex Betrayal and Sex or Porn Addiction

I'm also a nationally recognized expert in helping people deal with situations involving problematic sexual behaviors such as repeated infidelities, excessive pornography use and other patterns of sexual behavior that conflict with their commitments, values, self-control and/or responsibility to others and get in the way of a happy and healthy life.

I became a  Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) in 2002.  I've authored numerous professional articles and been an editorial board member of the journal Sexual Addiction & Compulsivity for years. I've also served on the board of directors of the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH)., including three years serving as national conference chair.  I continue to serve in an advisory capacity to this sexual health organization.  I contributed a chapter about my involvement in this field for the book "Reflections on the History of the Sex Addiction Field".  My 2017 article "A Framework for Categorizing Chronically Problematic Sexual Behavior", describes the essence of my clinical approach as it has evolved over the last 15 years, was awarded "Article of the Year" by the publisher of the journal in which it appeared.  This essential framework is now being taught in the core curriculum of the "Advanced Topics In Problematic Sexual Behavior" certificate training offered by SASH to therapists nationwide.  In October 2019 I had the honor of receiving the annual SASH "Carnes Award", presented personally by Patrick Carnes, Ph.D., for my cumulative contributions to advancing understanding of this field of study.

I'm also deeply committed to helping partners of chronic sexual betrayers heal their upended lives.  I think I may still be the only Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) in Atlanta who is also a Certified Clinical Partner Specialist through the Association of Partners of Sex Addicts Trauma Specialists (APSATS).  All of my work is informed by a deep understanding and respect for the power of complex relational betrayal trauma.

If you haven't read it already, here is a little more information about how I help people address problematic sexual behavior patterns.

I offer individual, couples and group counseling for these issues.  I can consult for just one meeting or offer assistance over a much longer period, as dictated by the specific needs of each individual situation.

Unparalleled Privacy, Comfort and Personalized Attention

While I help people from all walks of life, I'm able to offer an exceptional level of privacy for those in high profile or sensitive positions because of he discretion and heightened confidentiality of my convenient yet secluded office setting. As with any properly licensed therapist all of our confidential conversations are guaranteed protected by strong federal and state laws governing privileged communication.

I hope this brief description helps you decide whether I'm the right person for your specific needs. If you have any questions, or if you're ready to set up a time to meet in person to discuss what is happening in your life and how I can help, I welcome you to contact me directly.  Otherwise I hope you find a good source of help for you soon.

-Bill
